Ranbir Kapoor calls Besharam complete nonsense, tears up ticket

Ranbir Kapoor got angrier than common man after watching the film
Mumbai. Taking a cue from our ageless youth icon Rahul Gandhi, another youth icon Ranbir Kapoor has called his recently released movie ‘Besharam‘ a “complete nonsense” and has torn up a ticket of the movie to display his anguish.

The incident happened when director of the film, Abhinav Kashyap was talking to the press while attending a promotional event after the film had a poor opening. Though Ranbir was not invited at the meeting but he, out of nowhere and without any prior intimation, jumped into the press conference.
Thinking that Ranbir was there to promote the movie, Abhinav handed over the mike to him. But to his shock, Ranbir called the movie a complete nonsense. Not only that, he tore up and threw away a ticket of the movie that he was carrying in his pocket.
Ranbir immediately left after that, leaving everybody stunned. After recovering from the shock, Abhinav in a damage control exercise clarified what Ranbir’s statement actually meant.
“He was only trying to convey meaning of the ‘title’ in English  by calling it ‘Nonsense’ for the understanding of the English media,” Abhinav tried to downplay the situation just as he had been downplaying reviews of the movie.
However, experts feel that this was a deliberate attempt by Ranbir to distance himself from this disaster called Besharam like Rahul Gandhi previously distanced himself from the disaster called ordinance, and that is why he took so many days to come out in open. The only difference being, while Ranbir has been giving hits after hits, the same can’t be said about Rahul.
But Ranbir’s aides have a different story to tell. According to them, he actually watched the movie only last night and it was an impromptu decision by him to call it “nonsense”.
Meanwhile sources from the film’s crew allege that it was an attempt by Ranbir to malign Abhinav publicly.
According to them, there were differences between the actor and the director over who is calling the shots ever since the movie went on floor. But after the movie’s dismal box office performance, both were seen crediting each other for its failure at every event.

Aaradhya is why Aishwarya Rai Bachchan shoots in Mehboob Studio

Aishwarya doesn't take Aaradhya to her shoots
Bollywod actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has reportedly been shooting for her brand endorsements in Mehboob studio, close enough for her to drop her toddler Aaradhya with her mother and then rush back to work.

Those close to the actress say that Ash has requested the team shooting the ad to have it filmed at the Bandra studio that is a stone's throw away from her mother's apartment.

Says a source, "Aishwarya doesn't take her baby to her shoots. If she travels outside Mumbai, her mother accompanies her. For the shoot of her upcoming jewellery ad, she requested the brand honchos to shoot in Mehboob studio."

Aaradhya has already traveled with Ash to Cannes twice and even on all of her overseas shoots. The actress apparently prefers to plan her schedule in advance, keeping her child's comfort and convenience in mind.

Review: 24

24 is an adaptation of a popular American TV series of the same name.
Anil Kapoor's 24 is a much needed break from the dreadfully boring days of Saas-Bahu conflicts shown on the small screen as it brings a world of classy production values and mature performances unknown to Indian television.

The first two episodes, which were aired this weekend, were instant showstoppers. Like the show's agile energetic anti-terror hero, there is not an ounce of flab in the hour-long playing time of "24". 24 simply grabs your attention and refuses to let it go.

First things first. The production values seen on the show are of a calibre unknown to Indian television. Metropolitan night-life was never meant to be like this. Mumbai is caught in a feverish flourish of night-time bustle turning it into a city of pulsating activity as the serial kick-started with some of the crispest fiction writing.

Rensil D'Silva and Bhavani Iyer's writing is topnotch.

While retaining the looming suspense and the breakneck narrative speed of the original American series, the writers have created space for the very peculiar cultural compulsions of urban India where the householder must balance the demands of his posh job with family obligations.

Milap Jhaveri's dialogues capture the wry cynicism and the split-second immediacy of anti-terrorists working against the clock. But Jhaveri doesn't slavishly copy the original dialogues from the American series.

One wonders is this the same guy who scripted the smut spree in Grand Masti?

Anil too suprises. His range of performing abilities swing irreconcilably from the nudge-nudge-wink-wink innuendos of Race 2 on the 70mm screen to the mature panther-like agility of a family man coping with a national crisis in 24 on the portable screen. It's a dream role, and one into which Anil sinks his teeth with restrained relish.

Nowhere does he over-do the bravura, even in that intrinsically cocky sequence where he injects glucose into his insufferable senior pretending it would kill the boor in seconds.

Such writing would conventionally be considered wasted on television, a medium that has so far been treated as a lair for leftover talent from cinema. In one brilliant stroke Anil shows what can be achieved on that much-abused space in your living room.

24 is so full of anxious characters chasing the opposite of dreams that we watch them not only to gauge their commitment to doing what they are assigned to, but to see where their unrelenting passion for out-witting fate takes them.

Game-changer?

24 certainly is that. And a lot more. What is likeable is the Indianizations that have been teased into the tightly-wound plot simmering with the summer of desi discontent.

Neil Bhoopalam, so far seen in cheesy roles on the big screen in No One Killed Jessica and David, makes a very convincing prime ministerial candidate in the series.

The content is so riveting you wonder if all the brilliant writers are migrating to television leaving cinema to the besharams of the written word.

Trust me, it is going to take a lot of persuasive powers from filmmakers to drag viewers out of their homes on Friday and Saturday nights.

Besharam movie review

Cast:Ranbir Kapoor, Pallavi Sharda, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh
Director: Abhinav Kashyap

SPOILERS AHEAD

A slick, unabashedly lowbrow entertainer, Besharam is, true to the title, absolutely unapologetic about its intentions.

Like it or lump it, it is a film that is packaged smartly enough to be able to paper over for its obvious flaws, most of them at any rate.

It has no story worth the name, and its oddball characters are facile caricatures that turn more and more bizarre as they hurtle towards a protracted and action-packed climax that turns out to be far and away the most enjoyable part of the film.

Most of the comic gags that Besharam conjures up hinge on the film’s pivotal casting coup. The idea of playing the mercurial Ranbir Kapoor off against the spirited pair of Rishi and Neetu Kapoor (in the guise of ageing Delhi cops married to each other) offsets the deleterious effects of the duller moments.

There is much in the film that does not quite click into place. The implausible tale of bumbling cops, a cool car thief, his pretty lady love and a brutal hawala operator surrounded by a posse of grotesque henchmen takes ages to gather momentum. And even when it does get going, it is riddled with gaps of logic to huge to bridge.

But with Ranbir Kapoor going out of his way to live up to the moniker that the film bestows on his character, writer-director Abhinav Singh Kashyap’s second venture turns out to be yet another action comedy rooted firmly in the tradition of commercial Hindi potboilers of an era gone by.

Lest you miss the connection, Rishi Kapoor’s character in this film is called Chulbul Chautala. And sure enough, when the pot-bellied police inspector is down for the count, the gloating hero reminds him that every Chulbul cannot be a Dabangg.

The male protagonist, on his part, is quite a dabangg though: a glib talker, an incorrigible stalker, and a suave, larger-than-life rocker who can sway and swerve his way out of trouble without getting his knickers into a twist.

He is a lollypop-sucking car thief who answers to the unlikely name of Bubbly and that is exactly what the man is. No, he isn’t vintage champagne, but he is full of beans.
He has no surname because he has no parents. Pyaar, he declares grandly, is the only hathyar that he needs to get what his heart desires.

He is unapologetic about what he does for a living and can out-punch and outrun any number of hoodlums, but he is mortally afraid of canines. And, if you find his ways funny, that is all you really need to know about this man without a surname.

Abhinav Kashyap delivers the plot and character details only in broad sweeps, never pausing to let little things like psychological nuances get in the way of his defiantly goofy storytelling style.

His script provides no insights into the motives of the hero except for the fact that he grew up in an orphanage and resorts to illegal acts simply in order to fund a bunch of castaways.

Bubbly’s life goes into a tailspin when he espies a pretty girl, Tara Sharma (Pallavi Sharda), the spoilt daughter of a middle class widow, and flips head over heels for her.
He makes a pass at her outside a wedding venue. The girl gives him a piece of her mind. Yet the thick-skinned Bubbly not only follows her into the banquet hall but also sings and dances with her.

Bubbly worms his way into the heart of Tara’s mom and continues to pursue the girl without let. He barges into her office by bribing the security guards and proposes to her. Tara humiliates her and throws her out of the building.

On the way out, Bubbly and his pal, Titu (Amitosh Nagpal), escape with a brand new car that turns out to be Tara’s.

All hell breaks loose when Bubbly learns what he has done. He decides to get the stolen vehicle back from under the nose of the man it has been sold to, the dreaded Bhim Singh Chandel (Jaaved Jaaferi), Punjab’s undisputed hawala king. But that is easier said than done

If Besharam does not lose its wheels completely, it is primarily because Ranbir Kapoor plays to the gallery without the slightest sign of inhibition.

The star even does a repeat of the Saawariya towel act – this time around without the towel and in a water tank that doubles up as a bathtub.

Newcomer Pallavi Sharda does a fairly good job of looking blissfully beatific and overtly offended by turns. The screenplay does not give her much else to do.

The Rishi-Neetu double act certainly has its moments, especially when the pair gets to share space with Ranbir.

Besharam, rambunctious and robust, does not offer much by way of narrative novelty. But like Dabangg, it sets a crackling pace and does not flinch from the prospect of going over the edge in its pursuit of cheap thrills.

Watch Besharam primarily for Ranbir Kapoor and the zany climax in an old-world warehouse where the ghosts of many Hindi movie heroes of yore are invoked.
