दिल्ली में त्रिशंकु विधानसभा:हमवतन और न्यूज एक्सप्रेस मीडिया एकेडमी का सर्वे

‘न्यूज एक्सप्रेस’ मीडिया एकेडमी के साथ मिलकर जब ‘हमवतन’ ने दिल्ली की जनता की नब्ज को टटोला, तो कुछ चौंकाने वाले जवाब सामने आए हैं। मसलन, पिछले 15 सालों से दिल्ली पर राज कर रहीं मुख्यमंत्री शीला दीक्षित मुकाबले में तो बनी हुई हैं, लेकिन उनकी लोकप्रियता में जबर्दस्त गिरावट आई है। इसी तरह सरकार विरोधी माहौल होने के बावजूद भाजपा बहुमत से काफी दूर है। दरअसल, कांग्रेस और भाजपा दोनों के खेल को बिगाड़ रही है आप। पहली बार किसी चुनाव में भाग ले रही आप को दिल्ली के 21 प्रतिशत से ज्यादा लोग पसंद कर रहे हैं।

70 सदस्यीय दिल्ली विधानसभा चुनाव में त्रिशंकु जनादेश की संभावना बनती दिख रही है। साप्ताहिक ‘हमवतन’ और ‘न्यूज एक्सप्रेस’ मीडिया एकेडमी द्वारा 20 सितंबर से चार अक्टूबर के बीच 7, 550 मतदाताओं के बीच कराए गए सर्वे से, जो रुझान सामने आ रहे हैं, वे त्रिशंकु विधानसभा की ओर इशारा कर रहे हैं। सर्वे के मुताबिक, दिल्ली में कांग्रेस को भारी झटका लग सकता है। सर्वे का दूसरा पहलू यह भी है कि भाजपा के तमाम दावों के विपरीत उसकी भी सरकार बनने की संभावना नहीं है। अरविंद केजरीवाल की आम आदमी पार्टी भाजपा के बढ़ते कदमों को रोक रही है। साथ ही कांंग्रेस के भी कई इलाके आप के कब्जे में जाते दिख रहे हैं। ग्रामीण, शहरी, इलाकों के युवाओं, बुजुर्गों और महिलाओं के बीच दरवाजे से दरवाजे किए गए सर्वे में कांग्रेस के पक्ष में 26 सीटें आती दिख रही हैं।

भाजपा को भी इतनी ही सीटें मिलने की संभावना है। जबकि आप को 12 सीटें और अन्य दलों के बीच छह सीटें जाती दिख रही हैं। कांग्रेस के पक्ष में 29.8 फीसदी जनता विश्वास जता रही है, जबकि भाजपा के पक्ष में 36.75 फीसदी जनता वोट डालने के मूड में है। अभी एक साल के भीतर आंदोलन के गर्भ से निकली केजरीवाल की पार्टी आप को 21.20 फीसदी लोग पसंद कर रहे हैं, जबकि 12.25 फीसदी लोग अभी अन्य दलों या निर्दलीय पर यकीन कर रहे हैं।

दिल्ली के लोगों का मिजाज बदल रहा है। लगता है शीला दीक्षित के शासन से लोग ऊब से गए हैं। दिल्ली में 15 सालों में जो विकास हुए हैं, उससे लोग गदगद तो हैं, लेकिन महंगाई और भ्रष्टाचार की वजह से दिल्ली की जनता अब शीला दीक्षित की जगह केजरीवाल को ज्यादा तरजीह दे रही है। केजरीवाल को मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में 35.35 फीसदी जनता पसंद कर रही है, जबकि शीला दीक्षित को अगले मुख्यमंत्री के लिए 29.4 फीसदी और विजय गोयल को मात्र 27 फीसदी लोग पसंद कर रहे हैं।

दिल्ली की जनता भले ही इस चुनाव में भाजपा को पसंद कर रही है, लेकिन मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में केजरीवाल को ज्यादा तरजीह दे रहे है। भाजपा को वोट देने वाले करीब 15 फीसदी ऐसे लोग हैं, जो सीएम के रूप में केजरीवाल को पसंद कर रहें हैं। इस सर्वे का सबसे दिलचस्प पहलू यह है कि जिन विधानसभा क्षेत्रों में कांग्रेस के बड़े नेता अब तक चुनाव जीतते रहे हैं, वहां उनके खिलाफ लोगों में ज्यादा गुस्सा है। करीब दर्जन भर कांग्रेस की सीटें ऐसी हैं, जहां बड़े स्तर पर उलटफेर की संभावना है। कांग्रेस के चार मंत्रियों की हार तय मानी जा रही है, क्योंकि उनके इलाके में कहीं भाजपा के प्रति लोगों का रुझान बढ़ा है, तो कहीं केजरीवाल के प्रति।
चौंकाने वाली बात यह है कि दिल्ली में भाजपा के प्रति जिन लोगों की रूचि बढ़ी है, उसके लिए मोदी फैक्टर सबसे ज्यादा महत्वपूर्ण है। आठ विधानसभा ऐसे पाए गए हैं, जहां केवल मोदी के नाम पर भाजपा की जीत होती दिख रही है।

हालांकि जनता क ा रुझान चुनाव होते-होते बदलते रहते हैं, लेकिन इस सर्वे से यह पता चलता है कि दिल्ली में जो 15 सालों में विकास हुए हैं, वह भ्रष्टाचार और महंगाई के नीचे दबते दिख रहे हैं। शीला आज भी लोगों की पसंद हैं और लोग मानते भी हैं कि दिल्ली में विकास हुए हैं, लेकिन महंगाई, बेकारी, भ्रष्टाचार जैसे मुद्दों ने कांग्रेस की जमीन को कमजोर किया है।

सर्वे में कुछ अलग-अलग पहलुओं पर भी लोगों की राय जानने की कोशिश की गई। कांग्रेस से अगले मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में कौन बेहतर साबित हो सकता है? इस सवाल के जवाब में जो लोगों की राय मिली है, उसमें कांगे्रस के भीतर शीला दीक्षित सबसे ऊपर हैं।

31 फीसदी लोग शीला दीक्षित को मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में देखना चाहते हैं, सुभाष चोपड़ा को 11 फीसदी लोग पसंद कर रहे हैं। 22 फीसदी लोगों की पसंद मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में जयप्रकाश अग्रवाल हैं, तो 36 फीसदी लोगों ने किसी अन्य को मुख्यमंत्री बनाने की बात कही है।

यही हाल भाजपा के भीतर भी है। हालांकि भाजपा ने अभी अपने मुख्यमंत्री उम्मीदवार की घोषणा नहीं की है, लेकिन जिस तरह से प्रदेश अध्यक्ष विजय गोयल को प्रोजेक्ट करने की बात हो रही है, वह भाजपा के पक्ष में नहीं है। विजय गोयल को मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में 24 फीसदी लोग पसंद कर रहे हैं, जबकि 47 फीसदी लोग सुषमा स्वराज को मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में देखना चाह रहे हैं। भाजपा अगर सुषमा स्वराज के नजरिये से चुनाव को देखती है, तो भाजपा को और सीटें मिलने की संभावना बढ़ सकती है। 11 फीसदी लोग हर्षवर्धन को और 18 फीसदी लोग किसी अन्य को भाजपा के मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में पसंद कर रहे हैं।

दिल्ली के इस सर्वे में भाजपा के प्रधानमंत्री उम्मीदवार अन्य संभावित प्रधानमंत्री प्रत्याशियों में सबसे आगे निकलते दिख रहे हैं। दिल्ली की 52.7 फीसदी जनता मोदी को अगला प्रधानमंत्री बनाने के पक्ष में हैं, दूसरे नंबर पर राहुल गांधी हैं। उनके पक्ष में 28.15 फीसदी जनता खड़ी है। सोनिया गांधी प्रधानमंत्री बने, इसकी चाहत 6.25 फीसदी लोगों में है। दिल्ली के इस सर्वे में छह फीसदी लोग बिहार के मुख्यमंत्री नीतीश कुमार को भी प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में देखना चाहते हैं, जबकि लालकृष्ण आडवाणी के पक्ष में तीन फीसदी और मुलायम सिंह यादव और मायावती के पक्ष में दो-दो फीसदी लोग समर्थन में हैं।

Jaipur: The election season in Rajasthan coincides with the wedding season, but if poll candidates try to use one for the other, it's their funeral, says the Election Commission.

In guidelines to all political parties, the Rajasthan poll panel has said if a candidate is caught campaigning for the December 1 polls at weddings or similar functions, the cost of the entire event will be counted as their poll expense.

This would severely strain the poll panel's Rs. 16 lakh spending limit, which many parties say is unrealistically low, especially in times of rising prices.

The huge crowds at weddings, especially in rural areas, is an irresistible pull for candidates looking for a captive audience. Often, politicians have been known to sponsor functions where they come and address gatherings.

"We have noticed that candidates organise feasts, community meals and show up like invitees. That will not be allowed," said state Election Commissioner Ashok Jain.

Rajasthan will go to polls along with four other states in what is being seen as a semi-final ahead of next year's national elections. The state's ruling Congress led by Ashok Gehlot is pitted against the BJP's Vasundhara Raje Scindia.

For the first time ever, voters in these elections will have the option of choosing the "None of the Above" option and rejecting all candidates on offer.

Jagan Mohan Reddy taken into preventive custody on day 5 of hunger strike against Andhra Pradesh bifurcation

Mr Reddy was taken to the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences



Hyderabad: Politician Jagan Mohan Reddy, who  had been on a hunger strike  for five days to protest against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, was forcibly moved to the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) tonight after the police took him into preventive custody.

Before he was escorted away from outside his office where he has been fasting, Mr Reddy  told a large crowd of supporters "2014 will be a referendum" on the centre's decision to turn the region of Telangana into a state.

Earlier today, doctors said that the 40-year-old was severely dehydrated but he refused to end his fast.
 

In Delhi this evening, his mother, Vijayamma, met BJP president Rajnath Singh, triggering speculation that an alliance between the two parties is a work-in-progress. Recently, Mr Reddy, who was released last month from jail and is being investigated for corruption, praised the BJP's candidate for prime minister, Narendra Modi, as an efficient administrator. However, Mr Reddy urged the BJP leader to demonstrate his commitment to secularism.

Since Mr Reddy took charge of the YSR Congress party in 2011, he has proven that he is an emerging force in regional politics with strong performances in local elections.

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said that an alliance with Mr Reddy could be considered by his party after the national elections are held. But Mr Reddy has been less kind towards the party that his father belonged to.

Over the weekend, he targeted its president Sonia Gandhi for the decision to split Andhra Pradesh into two because "someone wanted their son to be Prime Minister." The reference was to her son, Rahul, and to the recurring criticism that the Congress wants to create a Telangana state for dividends in the national elections, due by May.

US shutdown denies death benefits to families of four dead soldiers

Washington: The families of four soldiers killed in Afghanistan last weekend will not receive death benefits or the money to pay for their funerals because of the government shutdown.

The bodies of Sergeant Patrick C Hawkins, 25; Pfc. Cody J. Patterson, 24; Sergeant Joseph M. Peters, 24; and First Lieutenant Jennifer M Moreno, 25, will arrive at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Wednesday. The four soldiers were killed Sunday in the Zhari district of Kandahar province when enemy forces attacked their unit with explosives.

But if their families want to meet the plane, they will have to pay their own way to Delaware.

Under the shutdown, Carl Woog, a Defense Department spokesman, said Tuesday, "the Department of Defense does not currently have the authority to pay death gratuities and other key benefits for the survivors of service members killed in action."

The benefits include $100,000 to each family; a 12-month basic allowance for housing, usually given in a lump sum to survivors commensurate with the rank of the service member; and burial benefits. The benefits are also being withheld from the family of Lance Cpl. Jeremiah Collins Jr, 19, of the Marines, whose death on Saturday in Helmand province is being investigated by the Pentagon. New hardships caused by the shutdown seem to emerge every day as the standoff between President Barack Obama and congressional Republicans entered its second week. But the denial of benefits to the families of fallen soldiers - however temporary - led to an unusual burst of outrage.

Senators took the floor to express their anger. In the House, members scrambled to write a bill to remedy the problem.

"It's an unbearable loss," Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., the majority leader, said on the Senate floor of the soldiers' families. "But now they're being denied death benefits because of this senseless shutdown. It's shameful and embarrassing.

"There are no words to describe this situation," he said.

Pentagon military and civilian personnel have largely escaped furloughs through legislation signed by Obama and on orders from the defense secretary. But the death benefits are not covered by either move.

Last week, Congress quickly passed the Pay Our Military Act to ensure that active-duty soldiers and civilian support staff members were paid for their work. Over the weekend, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said the Pentagon concluded that most of its 400,000 civilian employees were covered by the bill.

Some House Republicans have suggested, without citing specific language in the bill, that it also covered death benefits. "The intent of Congress was to permit DOD to honor all payment and allowances to service members," Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., said in a letter to Hagel.

"The department's decision to not make these payments is a matter of choice," he added. "And until a correction is made to the law, it is up to you to make the appropriate judgment based on a more correct interpretation."

The House Appropriations Committee is moving to get a bill to the floor to reinstate the benefits as early as Wednesday.

"Frankly, I think it's disgraceful that they're withholding these benefits," Speaker John A. Boehner said in a brief news conference Tuesday afternoon. "But again tomorrow, the House is going to act specifically on this and I hope the president will sign it."

The Pentagon strongly denied that the current legislation allowed for benefits to be paid without further congressional action.

"The fact that the House is developing new legislation on this matter shows Congress fully understands that DOD does not have the legal authority to provide these death benefits," a senior military official said. "Secretary Hagel is outraged and disgusted by this situation, but the law is clear."

Such legislation is likely to have strong support in both the House and Senate. "We ought to sit down and work it out," said Senator John McCain, R-Ariz.

After Reid spoke, Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and one of the architects of the shutdown, came to the Senate floor to say, "All of us weep for those servicemen and women who have lost their lives in defense of our great nation, and I would note that this Senate can right now today move to correct the problem."

Senator Joe Manchin III, D-W.Va., announced Tuesday that he had worked with Ken Fisher, the chief executive of Fisher House Foundation, a service group for veterans, to give families an advance grant to cover flights, hotels and other incidental costs for family members to attend funerals until the government can make reimbursements.

"After losing a loved one in service to our nation, these families should not have to endure more pain as the result of political squabbling," Fisher said in a statement.

मायावती ने तोड़ी चुप्पी, कांग्रेस को दिया जवाब

लखनऊ। दलित चेतना को लेकर कल जहां कांग्रेस उपाध्यक्ष राहुल गांधी ने बीएसपी सुप्रीमो मायावती को निशाने पर लिया था, वहीं आज मायावती ने राहुल और कांग्रेस पर हमला बोला। माय़ावती ने कहा कि कांग्रेस का दलितों पर रुख पक्षपाती है।

केंद्र सरकार को बाहर से समर्थन दे रही बहुजन समाज पार्टी की अध्यक्ष मायावती ने कांग्रेस पर दलित विरोधी होने का आरोप लगाते हुए कहा है कि जब कांशीराम का निधन हुआ था तो एक दिन का भी राष्ट्रीय शोक घोषित नहीं किया गया जो उसकी जातिवादी मानसिकता का सबूत है।

मायावती ने कांशीराम की सातवीं पुण्यतिथि पर बहुजन प्रेरणा केंद्र में उनकी प्रतिमा पर श्रद्धासुमन अर्पित करने के बाद कहा कि ऐसे युगपुरूष के प्रति विरोधी पार्टियों खासकर कांग्रेस का रवैया बेहद जातिवादी और उपेक्षापूर्ण बना रहा। उन्होंने कहा कि इसके लिए हमारे लोग कांग्रेस को कभी भी माफ नहीं करेंगे।

बता दें कि कल ही सीबीआई ने मायावती को आय से अधिक संपत्ति के मामला बंद करने का फैसला लिया। कल इस मुद्दे पर मायावती की तरफ से चुप्पी छाई रही, लेकिन आज मायावती ने हमला बोल ही दिया।

क्या कहा था राहुल ने

राहुल गांधी ने कल मायावती पर प्रहार करते हुए आरोप लगाया था कि माया ने अपने आगे दलित वर्ग के किसी नए नेता को उभरने नहीं दिया। अनुसूचित जाति सशक्तीकरण पर राष्ट्रीय जागरुकता शिविर को संबोधित करते हुए राहुल ने कहा कि दलित आंदोलन के दूसरे चरण में दलित वर्ग के नेताओं का उभरना बंद हो गया है। मायावती ने दलित वर्ग के नेतृत्व पर कब्जा जमा लिया और नए नेताओं को आगे नहीं आने दिया।

उन्होंने कहा कि ये मायावती की निजी इच्छा है,लेकिन कांग्रेस के लिए अब बहुत महत्वपूर्ण समय है जिसने इस वर्ग के उत्थान के लिए बहुत काम किया है। उन्होंने कहा कि कांग्रेस पार्टी चरणबद्ध ढंग से चलती है। कांग्रेस में पंचायत, विधायिका और यहां तक की नीति निर्धारण के स्तर पर भी दलित नेता मौजूद हैं।

भोपाल/मध्यप्रदेश में चुनाव को लेकर घमासान जारी है और सत्तारूढ भारतीय जनता पार्टी लगातार जनकल्याणकारी योजनाओं के क्रियान्वयन की बात और शिव का साथ लेकर जनता के मध्य जा रही है। लगभग एक दशक से प्रदेश में राज्य कर रही भाजपा और वनवास भोग रही कांग्रेस अपने-अपने प्रयास में लगी हुई है। एक का प्रयास सत्ता में पुन: तीसरी बार वापिसी का है तो दूसरी का दस बर्ष के वनवास को समाप्त करने कर राज्य प्राप्ति का है। दोनो के अपने -अपने दावे हैं तो आरोप-प्रत्यारोप का भी सिलसिला प्रारंभ है। प्रचार प्रसार के माध्यम से जनता के बीच जाकर अपनी-अपनी बात दोनो रख रहे हैं। भारतीय जनता पार्टी जहां अपने किले को अभेद बनाने की दिशा में पिछले लगभग दो बर्ष से प्रयास कर हर उस कमी को दूर करने में लगी हुई है जो उसके किले को भेद सकने की आशंका को व्यक्त करती है। वहीं कांग्रेस गढ को ढहाने के प्रयास में अपना अभियान प्रारंभ करने में काफी पीछे दिखलाई देती है। क्योंकि आप देखेंगे कि हाल के कुछ ही सप्ताह पूर्व इसकी कमान ज्योतिरादित्य सिंधिया को सौंपी गयी है जबकि प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री शिवराज इस समय प्रदेश के लगभग सत्तर प्रतिशत क्षेत्र को जनार्शीवाद यात्रा के माध्यम से नाप चुके थे। कई धडों में बटी एवं केन्द्र सरकार की लगातार विफलताओं के बीच घिरी कांग्रेस की कमान प्रदेश में ज्योतिरादित्य सिंधिया का सौपने पर हालांकि कांग्रेस में उत्साह तो आया परन्तु इस उत्साह को अपने पक्ष मत मतदाताओं से डलवाने में कांग्रेसी कितने कामयाब हो पाते हैं यह प्रश्र चिंह अंकित होता नजर आ रहा है। यह बात अलग है कि अनेक मंचों पर हम साथ-साथ है का संदेश देने का प्रयास किया जा रहा है परन्तु यह कितने साथ-साथ हैं किसी से छिपा नहीं है। लगातार कई बर्षों तक शांत रहने के बाद बर्षाती मेंढक की तरह नेताओं का टर्राने को जनता समझ रही है। क्योंकि जिस प्रकार के आरोपों की झडी लगायी जा रही है उसमें कितना दम है किसी से छिपा नहीं है इस बात की चर्चा जनता में आसानी से सुनी जा सकती है। कांग्रेस का प्रयास है कि वह एक बडी दीवार को खडा कर भाजपा को तीसरी बार सत्ता में आने से रोके और वह उसी के तहत कार्य करने में लगी हुई है।
ज्योति का आकर्षण -
मध्यप्रदेश में कांग्रेस के नेता अब ज्योतिरादित्य सिंधिया को अपना स्टार प्रचारक मान चुकी है जो लगातार सभाओं और रोड शो के माध्यम से मतदाताओं के मध्य पहुंच उनको भावनात्मक मोडने के प्रयास में लगे हुये हैं। कभी गीत गाकर तो कभी गुनगुना कर हालांकि वह अपने पिता की तरह ही जनता में आकर्षण का केन्द्र बन जाते हैं और जनता उनको देखने के लिये लालायित दिखलायी देती है। प्रदेश चुनाव समीति की कमान संभाल चुके सिंधिया को तो कुछ प्रदेश का मुख्यमंत्री पद का प्रबल दावेदार मानने लगे हैं जबकि उनकी भूमिका को प्रदेश में सत्ता दिलाने के लिये तय किया गया है। देखा जाये तो राज्य में एक दो नहीं कई दिग्गजों की दावेदारी उक्त पद को लेकर होने की बात से इंकार नहीं किया जा सकता है। देखा जाये तो गुटबाजी से त्रस्त रही कांग्रेस लम्बे समय तक प्रदेश में दिशाहीन रही। विपक्ष में होते हुए भी सत्तारूढ़ दल के लिए चुनौतियां खड़ी करने में असफल रही। प्रदेश में लम्बे समय से चली आ रही गुटबाजी का मामला राहुल गांधी के सामने भी खुलकर सामने आ चुका है। वैसे देखा जाये तो ज्योतिरादित्य खुद को मुख्यमंत्री पद की दावेदारी से बाहर बतलाते हैं परन्तु जिस तरह से पार्टी उन्हें सामने लाकर प्रस्तुत किया जा रहा है उससे तो एैसा प्रतीत होता है कि वह अपना सेनापति अब सिंधिया को ही मानकर चल रही है और उनकी भूूिमका प्रदेश में सरकार बनवाने में अहम होगी। वैसे इस बात से इंकार नहीं किया जा सकता कि प्रदेश में मृत प्राय हो चुकी कांग्रेस में उर्जा का संचार तो हुआ है ।
क्या हो पायेंगे कामयाब-
मध्यप्रदेश में भारतीय जनता पार्टी के विशाल गढ को भेदने में सिंधिया क्या कामयाब हो पायेंगे इस बात पर प्रश्र उपज रहे हैं। क्योंकि यह गढ कोई सामान्य नहीं माना जा सकता जिस तरह से भाजपा ने कार्य पिछले दो बर्षो से प्रारंभ कर दिया था वह एक बडी रणनीति का हिस्सा है। वहीं चुनाव प्रबंधन के साथ ही हर छोटी सी छोटी बात को समझ आगे बढना अपने कार्यकर्ताओं को लगातार उर्जा और ज्ञान से भरने का प्रयास भाजपा बर्षों से र रही है। जबकि अपनी जगजाहिर गुटबाजी से अभी भी उबर नहीं पायी है भले ही वह हम साथ-साथ हैं का ढिडोरा पीटे। भारतीय जनता पार्टी का कार्यकर्ताओं का ग्वालियर में कुछ माह पूर्व प्रशिक्षण और उसके बाद विशाल कार्यकर्ता महाकुंभ का आयोजन ने विपक्षियों की नींद तो उडा ही दी है। वहीं क्या हुआ तेरा वादा को गुन गुनाने वाले के तरकस के तीरों के संहारों को भाजपा आसानी से झेल अपने लक्ष्य की ओर बढ रही है। सूत्र बतलाते हैं कि भाजपा संगठन ने यह तय कर रखा है कि अभी जबाब जिनका जरूरी वही दो समय आने पर प्रहार किया जायेगा। वहीं कांग्रेस के नेताओं को लगातार तिलमिलाहट का अनुभव होने के कारण कुछ न कुछ मुंह से एैसे शब्द निकलना भाजपा के लिये हथियार बन रहे हैं या वह उनका प्रयोग अधिसूचना जारी होने के बाद करेगी। इसे तिलमिलाहट का नतीजा ही कहा जायेगा कि दिग्विजय सिंह का राघव जी के संस्कारों की बात तो की परन्तु वह अभिषेक मनु सिंघवी,नारायण दत्त तिवारी सहित अनेक नेताओं को भूल गये?सिंधिया अपने आरोपों में प्रदेश के भ्रष्टाचार को बताते हैं पर केन्द्र के मामले में खामोश हो जाते हैं? हाल ही में इनका प्रदेश में नर्मदा एवं अन्य नदियों के साथ प्रदेश सरकार द्वारा किया जाने वाला बलात्कार बतलाना इसी तिलमिलाहट का हिस्सा माना जा सकता है? अब भाजपा तो इसको हथियार बनायेगी ही? वहीं कांग्रेस में ही दिग्गजों की कमी नहीं है जो कि अपने आपको मुख्यमंत्री पद का प्रबल दावेदार मानते थे और हैं। जिनमें प्रदेशाध्यक्ष कांतिलाल भूरिया,दिग्विजय सिंह,कमलनाथ,सुरेश पचौरी,अजय सिंह राहुल के नाम प्रमुख बतलाये जाते हैं। वहीं भूरिया का राहुल के संग साये की तरह साथ रहना और सिंधिया समर्थको का राहुल के समक्ष सिंधिया समर्थन में नारेबाजी करना दिल में चोट तो पहुंचा ही रहा होगा ? जानकारों की माने तो इस घटना का असर बाद में दिखलायी देगा। ज्ञात हो कि भूरिया प्रमुख नाम के तौर पर उभरे और अपने आप शिथिल हो गए जबकि ज्योतिरादित्य कांग्रेस की बुझी हुई मशाल को फिर से प्रज्जवलित करने में निरंतर कामयाब होते नजर आ रहे हैं। वहीं प्रदेश में आगमन के दौरान कांग्रेस कार्यालय में हुये घमासान पत्रकारों के साथ हुये दुर्वव्हार और राष्ट्रीय महासचिव दिग्विजय सिंह को बैठक से बाहर रखना भी अपने परिणाम तो दिखलायेगा ही? इसी क्रम में टिकिट वितरण के मामले में भी देखें तो महिला कांग्रेस और युवक कांग्रेस के लगभग 6 दर्जन सीटों पर प्रबल दावेदारी जतलायी जा रही है। वहीं दिग्गजों के पुत्रों को टिकिट देने की मांग का मामला भी सामने आ रहा है जो मुश्किल पैदा करेगा। सूत्रों की माने तो मध्यप्रदेश कांग्रेस के फिलहाल दो कदवर नेताओं के बेटों के लिये दो विधायकों के टिकट काटने का कार्य प्रारंभ हो चुका है। यह बात अलग है कि प्रदेश चुनाव अभियान समिति ने अपनी प्रथम बैठक के दौरान मौजूदा विधायकों को पुन: से चुनावी समर में उतारने की सहमति बनाकर प्रस्ताव स्क्रीनिंग कमेटी को भेज दी है। परन्तु सूत्रों की माने तो राघौगढ़ विधायक मूल सिंह एवं थांदला विधायक वीर सिंह भूरिया का टिकट कटना तय माना जा रहा है। कांग्रेस के ही राष्ट्रीय महासचिव दिग्विजय सिंह के पुत्र जयवर्धन सिंह तथा प्रदेश कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष कांतिलाल भूरिया विधानसभा चुनाव लडाऩा चाहते हैं। जयवर्धन सिंह पिछले दो साल से राघौगढ़ विधानसभा क्षेत्र में सक्रिय बतलाये जा रहे है और उक्त सीट पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री दिग्विजय सिंह की पारंपरिक सीट मानी जाती है। जानकारी के अनुसार जयवर्धन के लिए सीट छोडऩे के बदले में मूल सिंह को संगठन में कोई महत्वपूर्ण पदाधिकारी बनाने पर विचार चल रहा है। वहीं दूसरी ओर कांतिलाल भूरिया के पुत्र विक्रांत भूरिया को प्रदेश की झाबुआ जिले की थांदला विधानसभा क्षेत्र से उम्मीदवार बनाने पर जोर दिया जा रहा है। विक्रान्त पिछले कुछ समय से इसी क्षेत्र में सक्रिय दिखलायी दे रहे हैं। ज्ञात हो कि भूरिया ने कुछ माह पूर्व वीर सिंह भूरिया को झाबुआ जिले का कार्यकारी अध्यक्ष बनाया था जो इसी रणनीति का हिस्सा बतलाया जा रहा है। इसी क्रम में कांग्रेस के ही कुछ और दिग्गजों के पुत्रों के नाम बतलाये जाते हैं जिनमें कमलनाथ के बेटे का भी सम्मिलित होने की चर्चा है। ऐसी स्थिति में पार्टी को अनेक मुश्किलों का सामना तो करना ही पडेगा?
प्रमुख चुनौतियां -
मध्यप्रदेश में सत्ता प्राप्ति के लिये कांगे्रस के सामने अनेको चुनौतियां सामने हैं। भारतीय जनता पार्टी जहां अपनी तैयारियों के साथ तय समय पर आक्रमण कर रही है और लगातार प्रचार-प्रसार में कई गुना आगे निकल चुकी है तो कांग्रेस के सामने इसका पीछा कैसे किया जाये यह एक बडी समस्या नजर आ रही है। शिवराज विभिन्न जनकल्याणकारी एवं विश्व की अकेली अनोखी प्रदेश सरकार की योजनाओं के माध्यम से जनता मेें पैठ बना चुके हैं। वहीं राजनीति के दिग्गजों की रणनीति तथा जनता के मन में नमो अर्थात् नरेन्द्र मोदी,शिवराज और कमल का फूल प्रवेश करा सकने में काफी कामयाब हो चुके हैं जबकि कांग्रेस में इसका आभाव स्पष्ट रूप से देखा जा सकता है? वहीं कांग्रेस पार्टी को सत्ता से बाहर हुए दस साल बीत चुके हैं। ऐसे में सबसे बड़ी चुनौती है टिकटों का बंटवारा। जोड़ तोड़ से टिकट हासिल करने वाले, योग्य लेकिन वंचित रहने वाले, असंतुष्ट जो जोड़ तोड़ के बाद भी टिकट हासिल ना कर पाए। इन तीनो ही श्रेणी के प्रत्याशी प्रदेश में कांग्रेस की लुटिया डुबोने के लिए काफी हैं। पार्टी के भीतर टिकट हासिल करने के लिए ज्योतिरादित्य की अनुकम्पा के साथ-साथ पचौरी गुट, दिग्विजय गुट आदि में घमासान जारी है। वहीं सूत्र बतलाते हैं कि पार्टी में फूल छाप कांग्रेसी भी अपनी अहम भूमिका को पूर्व की भांति निभाने में इस बार बडी ताकत लगायेंगे? भाजपा केन्द्र की नाकामयाबी,महंगायी,प्रदेश के साथ किये जा रहे सौतेलेपन,भ्रष्टाचार के साथ ही अपनी उपलब्धियों को लेकर कार्य कर रही है। देखा जाये तो मोदी,शिव के साथ ही कमल का जादू सिर चढकर बोल रहा है जो मतदाताओं को पूर्ण रूप से भाजपा के पक्ष में करते देखा जा सकता है। पार्टी के सूत्रों से मिली जानकारी के अनुसार कांग्रेस ने चुनाव प्रबंधन की जिम्मेदारी कमलनाथ के हाथो में है। घोषणापत्र तैयार करने की जिम्मेदारी सुरेश पचौरी, सत्तारुढ भाजपा के खिलाफ आरोप पत्र तैयार करने की जिम्मेदारी विधानसभा में नेता प्रतिपक्ष अजय सिंह जबकि चुनाव प्रचार अभियान समिति की कमान ज्योतिरादित्य के राजसी कंधो पर देते हुये आगे कर दिया गया है इसलिए प्रश्न लाजिमी है कि क्या सिंधिया आगामी चुनाव में भाजपा को हैट्रिक लगाने से रोक सकेंगे?

नरेंद्र मोदी सर्च इंजन गूगल पर सबसे ज्यादा खोजे जाने वाले राजनेता हैं. ये खुलासा गूगल की एक रिपोर्ट में हुआ है. मोदी के बाद राहुल गांधी को दूसरे नंबर पर खोजा जाता हैं. गूगल के एक सर्वे में यह भी सामने आया है कि 40 फीसदी शहरी वोटर्स ने अभी फैसला ही नहीं किया कि वो किस पार्टी को वोट देंगे.
लिस्ट में चार कांग्रेसी और दो भाजपाई
भारतीय जनता पार्टी के प्रधानमंत्री उम्मीदवार नरेंद्र मोदी भारत में गूगल पर सबसे ज्यादा खोजे जाने वाले नेता बन गये हैं. यह बात इसी साल मार्च से लेकर अगस्त तक के गूगल सर्च ट्रेंड में सामने आई है. दूसरे नंबर पर हैं कांग्रेस उपाध्यक्ष राहुल गांधी और तीसरे पर हैं उनकी मां कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी.
गूगल इंडिया के इंडस्ट्री हेड गौरव कपूर के मुताबिक हमने गूगल सर्च ट्रेंड के आधार पर सबसे ज्यादा खोजे जाने वाले 10 नेताओं की यह लिस्ट जारी की है.कहा जा रहा है कि इंटरनेट अगले चुनावों में अहम रोल अदा करेगा. उसके ट्रेंड को समझने के लिए हमने यह रिपोर्ट तैयार की.
ये रही टॉप 10 नेताओं की लिस्ट पहले से आखिरी के क्रम में
नरेंद्र मोदी, राहुल गांधी, सोनिया गांधी,  मनमोहन सिंह, अरविंद केजरीवाल, जयललिता, अखिलेश यादव, नीतिश कुमार, सुषमा स्वराज और दिग्विजय सिंह.

मोदी की पार्टी भी नंबर वन
अगर राजनैतिक दलों के सर्च ट्रेंड की बात करें, तो यहां भी बीजेपी कांग्रेस पर भारी पड़ती दिखाई दी. बीजेपी को सबसे ज्यादा लोगों ने सर्च किया. दूसरे नंबर पर कांग्रेस है, तो तीसरे नंबर अरविंद केजरीवाल की पार्टी आप.

42 फीसदी वोटर्स ने नहीं किया अपना चुनाव
अगले साल होने वाले आम चुनाव के लिए इंटरनेट पर अभी से सर्च किया जाने लगा है.ये सर्च अभी से पिछले चुनाव में की गई सर्च से 800 फीसदी ज्यादा है.चुनावों में इटरनेट की भूमिका पर ये रिपोर्ट इसलिए भी महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि इस सर्वे में लिए गये सैंपल के मुताबिक 37 फीसदी शहरी रजिस्टर्ड वोटर ऑनलाइन हैं यानि इंटरनेट इस्तेमाल करते हैं.
इस सर्वे में एक और खास बात निकलकर आई है वो ये कि 42 फीसदी वोटर्स ने अभी फैसला ही नहीं किया है कि वे किस पार्टी को वोट देंगे.इसके अलावा ये भी सामने आया है कि वोटर्स के लिए जितना राजनैतिक दल महत्व रखता है उतना ही महत्व लोकल उम्मीदवार भी रखता है. 11 फीसदी लोगों ने ये भी कहा कि राजनैतिक दल का प्रधानमंत्री उम्मीदवार भी उनके वोट के फैसले का प्रभावित करेगा.
कैसे हुआ ये गूगल इलेक्शन सर्वे
गूगल के इस सर्वे में 108 सीटों में 7000 से ज्यादा लोगों को शामिल किया गया। और अगर इस सर्वे की रिपोर्ट की मानें तो उम्मीदवारों को इंटरनेट पर अपनी मौजूदगी दिखानी ज़रुरी होगी क्योंकि सर्वें में शामिल 45 फीसदी लोग मानते हैं कि वो राजनैतिक दलों के पार्टी में ज्यादा से ज्यादा सूचना ऑनलाइन चाहते हैं जिससे कि वो सही फैसला ले सकें.

Narendra Modi not bigger than Vajpayee, says Chidambaram; compare with your PM candidate, counters BJP

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party today hit back at Finance Minister P Chidambaram for his remarks on Narendra Modi calling the Gujarat chief minister neither "bigger than Vajpayee in terms of image and acceptability" nor "stronger than either Vajpayee or Advani."

Mr Chidambaram, in his interview to a news agency yesterday, also dismissed the emergence of the Gujarat chief minister, claiming that the hype around the BJP's prime ministerial candidate was "largely media created." 

Atal Bihar Vajpayee, the only BJP leader to head a government at the centre so far, was considered an acceptable face of the right-wing party to its allies, as opposed to a polarising Mr Modi, accused of his government's complicity during the Gujarat violence in 2002 in which hundreds of Muslims were killed.

Responding to the remarks, the BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said Mr Chidambaram has given a "walkover" to Mr Modi by accepting that no Congress leader matches the calibre of the BJP prime ministerial candidate.

"If Chidambaram considers himself better than Indira Gandhi, then it is a different thing. Atalji and Advaniji are our leaders. If he wants to give an example, Chidambaram should know that Modiji is far better than Rahul Gandhi. He should compare him (Modi) with his party's prime ministerial candidate," said the BJP spokesperson.

Though Mr Chidambaram, in his interview, conceded that the BJP's prime ministerial candidate has been able to "unite the rank and file of his party" and "gained some traction among urban youths", he said his party's challenger for the 2014 elections was someone with a "very, very chequered track record."

The Finance Minister, in his interview, pointed out that Gujarat ranks 12th in the Raghuram Rajan committee report in terms of economic growth. His remarks came on the day Narendra Modi became the first chief minister of Gujarat to complete 12 continuous years in office.

A Dalit needs Jupiter's escape velocity to achieve success: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi reached out to the Dalits on Tuesday and urged for more representation for the community in the Congress party. He attacked Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati, saying she was not allowing other Dalit leaders to rise.

The Congress vice-president said the Dalit community "needs the escape velocity of Jupiter" to achieve success.

He dwelt on astronomy to explain the phenomenon of escape velocity -- or the speed that an object needs to be travelling to break free of a planet or moon's gravity.

Addressing a function on National Awareness Camp for Scheduled Castes Empowerment at Vigyan Bhavan, Rahul Gandhi said BR Ambedkar was the first Dalit to attain escape velocity and after him Kanshi Ram channelised "the energy that was created due to reservation" and helped many Dalits attain escape velocity.

But he said Mayawati, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister, had captured the Dalit leadership and was not allowing others to rise.

The Congress leader said if the movement for escape velocity has to be taken forward it needs the participation of lakhs of Dalit leaders.  He said he has asked prominent Dalit leaders in the Congress to systematically develop leadership at "panchayat, MLA, MP and policy level".

At another function at Talkatora Stadium to mark Dalit Adhikar Diwas (Dalit rights' day), Mr Gandhi described the Dalits as the "reed ki haddi" or spine of the Congress party.

To loud cheers of "Rahul Gandhi zindabad", "Rahul Gandhi is the messiah of the downtrodden" and the "India's rising star", he said the Congress party would do everything to empower the Dalits.

"Congress is the party for the poor, our opposition does not understand the problems of the poor. They don't go to their homes and hold their hands or discuss their problems. And then they speak of India shining. And lose the polls. They lost it in 2004, in 2009 and will lose again in 2014," he said.

On fast against Telangana, Chandrababu Naidu backed new state in 2008 letter: Congress

New Delhi: Politician Chandrababu Naidu, who is on an indefinite fast to protest against the division of Andhra Pradesh for a separate Telangana state, has taken a complete U-turn from his stand five years ago, claims the ruling Congress.

The party today alleged that Chandrababu Naidu, who heads the regional Telugu Desam Party (TDP), had supported the creation of Telangana in a letter to the Centre in 2008.

The Congress circulated Mr Naidu's letter dated October 18, 2008, to then Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee, in which he says a core committee of senior TDP leaders had taken the views of people and backed Telangana.

"The politburo of TDP has discussed thoroughly on the conclusions arrived at by the core committee and agreed with its recommendations in favour of a separate Telangana state," the letter quotes Mr Naidu as saying.

On Monday, the TDP leader had been ambivalent on whether Telangana deserves statehood. He told NDTV, "In those circumstances we had supported Telangana but now the government hasn't followed proper procedure - it took a decision - there is no consensus within the Congress."

The Congress also says YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy, also on a protest fast, had said in a letter to Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde last year that, "We respect the sentiments of the people of Telangana....All that we request from you is a solution acceptable to all without injustice to anyone."

Jagan, who broke away from the Congress to lead the breakaway YSR Congress after the death of his father YSR Reddy in 2009, sharpened his stand after the seething anger and protests in the two other parts of Andhra Pradesh - Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema collectively known as Seemandhra.

The waffling by these parties reflects the dilemma that Telangana represents for many parties -  it is politically strategic and will elect 17 parliamentarians once it is a state; on the other hand, leaders from the non-Telangana areas of Andhra Pradesh say voters will not forgive them for ceding the separation of the financially robust region.

Narendra Modi has united the rank and file of BJP: Chidambaram

After terming Narendra Modi's claims on growth during the NDA regime as a "fake encounter of facts", Finance Minister P Chidambaram again targeted BJP's prime ministerial candidate, saying the hype surrounding him was "largely media created". But the minister, in an exclusive interview to news agency Reuters, also conceded that the Gujarat Chief Minister had "gained some traction among the urban youth", while also managing to unite "the rank and file of BJP". He also added that Mr Modi was no Vajpayee, BJP's iconic former prime minister, and had a "very, very checkered track record."

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today commuted the death sentence of former Congress politician Sushil Sharma - convicted of murdering his wife and trying to burn the body in a tandoor in 1995 - to a life term.

Sharma, who has spent almost 18 years in jail for what became notorious as the 'tandoor murder case', can be released if the Delhi government grants him remission.

"It is not a crime against society but a crime committed due to (Sharma's) strained relationship with his wife," the top court said, adding that the murder did not fall in the category of rarest of rare crimes.

A trial court in 2003 convicted Sharma of shooting his wife Naina Sahani on July 2, 1995, in a fit of rage at their home in central Delhi, on the suspicion that she was having an affair with another Congress worker.

Sharma was found guilty of chopping up the body and trying to burn it in a tandoor - or open clay oven - in a popular restaurant, with the help of the manager, who was his friend.

The crime was detected when the thick smoke from the tandoor alerted cops patrolling the area. Sharma ran, but surrendered a week later.

In 2007, the Delhi High Court upheld the conviction and death sentence, describing the crime as an "act of extreme depravity that shook the conscience of society".

Sharma had argued in court that his conviction was based entirely on circumstantial evidence. But the Delhi Police maintained in every court that the gruesome killing falls under the rarest of rare category of crimes.

Actress Mallika Sherawat says in her upcoming reality series that she is not looking for a husband but rather wants to find 'true love'.

The 36-year-old actress will make her small screen debut with The Bachelorette India -Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika, which is a spin-off from the American competitive reality dating game show.

"There is no promise of marriage. I am lonely and am looking for true love. It is about the journey and not the destination," Mallika said.

However, the Murder actress said that when she decides to settle down in the future, she will chose someone who has nothing to do with the showbiz world.

"I would not marry anyone from the field of entertainment. I am in the world of glitz and glamour which is make believe world. I want normalcy in life and that is why you will see actresses getting married to doctors and businessmen," she said.

When asked if she would like to marry someone from abroad, Mallika, who regularly visits the US for work, said, "It is good to work there but people lack human emotions. I would marry someone from India."

The Indian version of the show will have 30 contestants vying for Mallika's attention.

"It is a reality show so whatever happens on a date and on the show is all real. Nothing is scripted. We have not created anything falsely. I am very much real in the show I am not acting," she said.

Mallika considers Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the perfect bachelor and on his birthday the actress even recorded a video message for him.

"I am hopelessly romantic girl. I like him (Narendra Modi). I am not interested in Rahul Gandhi," she added.There were reports that Mallika has charged a whopping Rs 30 crore for 30 episodes of this show. When asked about the same, she said, I am not denying it... I cannot lie."

Mallika is not the only celebrity looking for her 'Mr Right' on TV. Previously, Rakhi Sawant and Ratan Rajput too starred in marriage reality shows but without much successs.

Rahul Mahajan was the only person who married on a TV show.

Govt considers PF cap hike in boost to salaried employees

The government may hike the threshold salary limit for provident fund contributions in a move that will bring cheer to millions of employees in the private sector. According to current norms, contribution towards provident fund is mandatory for those employees, whose salary is up to Rs. 6,500.

A hike in salary limit will not only help more people contribute toward their retirement benefits, but will also enable the Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) to draw more long-term savings into its kitty. EPFO is a statutory body that manages provident fund contributions.

Higher provident fund contributions will also help the government to lower its borrowing cost. At present, the EPFO invests a sizable amount of its kitty in government securities.

The Rs. 6,500 limit for PF contribution was last revised in 2001.

According to the current norms, 12 per cent of an employee's salary is contributed towards provident fund account. Another 12 per cent is contributed by the employer.

Out of the 24 per cent around one-third of the total provident contribution (8.33 per cent of salary) goes toward employee's pension scheme. The government contributes 1.16 per cent of the overall salary towards the pension scheme as a subsidy.

The government had recently made more people eligible to avail healthcare benefits under the Employees' State Insurance (ESI). Earlier, workers with monthly salary up to Rs. 15,000 were eligible for ESI benefits. Now the salary cap has been increased to Rs. 25,000, making for people eligible for ESI benefits.

Every month, eligible employees contribute 1.75 percent of their salary and employers contribute 4.75 percent toward the ESI corpus.

Third front candidate will be next Prime Minister: Mulayam Singh

New Delhi: Samajwadi Pary chief Mulayam Singh Yadav today said a third front will come into power after the elections next year, as neither the Congress nor the BJP would win enough seats to form a government.

"The third front's candidate will be the next Prime Minister of the country," Mr Yadav said today, speaking to the media, once again raising the possibility of a third front, a grouping of non-Congress and non-BJP parties that been seen as a failed experiment even by its own leaders.

 Mr Yadav said he was working with CPI-M leader Prakash Karat to put together a third front, but said it was not possible before the elections due by May.

"The third front formation is not possible now, as differences can crop up among parties on ticket distribution and seat sharing," admitted the Samajwadi Party chief, who had met Mr Karat recently.

All political parties of the proposed alliance would contest polls on their own strength, he said, and then get together after the election.

Mulayam Singh said he had been invited to a meeting on October 30 to discuss a joint fight against 'communal forces', but refused to reveal names of other parties who would participate.

The BJP dismissed Mulayam Singh's comments as old hat.

"These third and fourth front talks are like expired poll chocolates, it is raised every time during elections," said BJP's Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. He added that these fronts 'are full of Prime Ministerial candidates."

The Samajwadi Party, which rules India's largest state Uttar Pradesh, props up the minority Manmohan Singh government.

Telangana crisis: Am using Italian so Centre understands, Chandrababu Naidu targets Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi: Politician Chandrababu Naidu today said that since the Centre doesn't seem to understand the extent of the crisis in Andhra Pradesh, he will use Italian to explain. Mr Naidu, who heads the regional Telugu Desam Party, said that Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema are "immobilismo". For those not fluent in Italian, Mr Naidu added, "Things are at a standstill. Total standstill."

His jibe is aimed at Sonia Gandhi, the president of the Congress party, which anchors the ruling coalition at the Centre and decided last week that the process of dividing Andhra Pradesh to create a new state of Telangana must begin immediately. That move has registered high on the Richter scale, triggering huge aftershocks in the 13 districts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema which are the two other regions of Andhra Pradesh, and are collectively referred to as Seemandhra.
   

Mr Naidu began an indefinite fast in Delhi today to support the demand for a "United Andhra." However, he refused to answer a question on whether he thinks Telangana deserves statehood.

His political opponents accuse him of doublespeak, because in 2008, he wrote to the Centre supporting the movement for statehood for Telangana. In his defense, his party says he is fighting to protect Seemandhra's interests, and to oppose what they describe as the Centre's unilateral decision to divide Andhra Pradesh.

Mr Naidu's decision to fast in Delhi, thousands of miles from the front line of aggressive protests in Seemandhra, is being seen as an attempt to gain credibility and dispel the impression that he is following the lead of his political rival, Jagan Mohan Reddy, who began a hunger strike in Hyderabad on Saturday.

High on the list of concerns for leaders from these areas is grappling with a future devoid of the booming economy of IT hub Hyderabad, which will be a shared capital for 10 years, but will then belong to Telangana state.

CBI to say Ishrat Jahan was 'innocent college girl' in next chargesheet

New Delhi: The CBI will soon declare that  it has found no evidence of terrorist leanings for 19-year-old  Ishrat Jehan, who was killed by the Gujarat police in 2004 along with three men.

Sources say that in its next chargesheet, to be filed within the next two weeks, the agency will say that Ishrat was "an  innocent college girl", presenting a boldface controversy for chief minister Narendra Modi, who is in the running for Prime Minister.

The BJP has already alleged that the ruling Congress, unable to politically combat Mr Modi's surging popularity, is using the CBI to question his credentials and mar his reputation as the national elections approach.

In its first chargesheet presented in a Gujarat court in July, the CBI accused seven senior policemen of murdering Ishrat and her three male companions  in "cold blood" and of planting an AK-56 at the scene of the shooting to portray the victims as terrorists.

One of those officers, DG Vanzara, who was then Deputy Commissioner of the Amedabad Crime Branch, wrote an explosive letter to Mr Modi from jail recently.

He alleged that Mr Modi's close aide, Amit Shah, who was Home Minister when Ishrat was killed, was aware of the police's actions, but that the cops have now been betrayed by a weak state government.  The senior officer repeated the defense that his team was trying to fight Pakistani terrorists.

The CBI says that Mr Vanazara has refused to cooperate and share more details of the accusations he made in his note against Mr Shah. So far, the CBI has not interrogated Mr Shah, or linked either him or Mr Modi to its investigation.
